And there was me thinking I'd be organised, pack most stuff over the weekend and be able to go out most evenings this week *laughs at own foolish thoughts*

Parts of the house are now feeling distinctly empty, but not as bad as when I moved out of the flat in Croydon six months ago ([livejournal.com profile] thethirdvoice's stuff is still here unpacked).

Have been very tired all week and packing doesn't seem to be helping. Must investigate the possibility of going to sleep for several months after all this is over...

You'll have to imagine there's a Blue Peter tortoise hibernating video clip here.

YouTube doesn't seem to have one *is shocked* or at least I can't find one

Firstly, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] westerling for sending the blanket of snow covering London and Slough I requested on Twitter the other day.

It appears to be entirely the wrong sort of snow, but I suppose I should have read the label before ordering. It seems to compact down an awful lot.

In true ebay style - feedback:

**** - Very quick and didn't charge anything. Item not quite as expected, but seller highly recommended anyway.

So, lunchtime seemed the idea time to build an army of snowmen. Having rolled the body of the first one around most of the garden and not got it much bigger than a beach ball, it was soon clear that wasn't going to happen, so I left it in the middle of the garden and tried to build it up there instead.

It soon became clear from the shape that it was turning into something else entirely, so I went with that instead (at least it solved the issue of not having any coal or carrots).

The Lawn now appears to be disappearing again rapidly...

Last night on the way home, I arrived at Paddington to discover everything was delayed due to a car hitting a bridge at Hayes.

After a wait they finally added my stop to one of the Reading trains that was about to leave (doesn't normally stop here, but actually left about the same time as the one that normally would). They only announce the extra stops just before it left, so I ended up in the last carriage.

When we arrived at the station at home, I opened the train door to find a distinct lack of platform, just a drop down to track level. The platform itself started a few meters further up the train. Wasn't enough time to get further up the train to the platform so ended up going to Slough and getting First Great Western to pay for a Taxi back (after several questions along the lines of "Are you sure the doors opened?").

Landlord rang me on Friday evening. He had spoken to the letting agent and they're going to put the house back on the market.

The agent is confident of finding a new tenant soon, so hopefully it won't be too long before I can move back to London...

So we've just spoken to the landlord about terminating the tenancy early. Obviously, he wasn't thrilled, but I think he'll probably be reasonable about it and hopefully we can come to some arrangement to free us from the contract without causing them too much inconvenience.

He said he'd need to talk to his wife and the letting agent about it and would get back to us later in the week, so hopefully we might be able to sort this out soon and then I can look at moving back to London.

Bowling

[livejournal.com profile] thethirdvoice and I went bowling on Thursday, mainly because she was shocked that I'd never been before.

Needless to say I was fairly incompetent at it. Although it did take some time for my incompetence to manifest itself, allowing me to win the first game before losing the second badly.

Missing part for new desk finally arrived yesterday (after 3 months of chasing it up), so now computer is setup again.

Also got a trolley-thing to put the Samovar on, so finally I have the important things in life back again...

Moved house about a month ago now.

Only just got around to coming back on here again... (partly because my computer isn't setup yet as the desk I'm going to put it on still hasn't been delivered, but it should be soon... hopefully).

Firstly, the big news: [livejournal.com profile] thethirdvoice has been offered a job, which she is probably going to accept. She's got another interview on Tuesday, which she is going to go to in case it is the greatest job in the world, but the chances are she'll be accepting this offer mid-week.

On Friday, we're off to Sidmouth for a week with Molly and then will be heading up to Mum's for the following weekend to see her before she head's back up to Penrith (she's been renting a house in north Devon for the past 6 months).

When we get back, I'll be moving offices at work. An obvious corollary of not being a librarian is not needing to work in the library any more. We had a handover meeting for the library on Friday and it's going to switch to being open and unmanned while I'm on holiday.

Also moving house hopefully at the end of August. [livejournal.com profile] thethirdvoice's new job is in Langley, Slough, so we are going to try to move there a soon as we can (quite lucky I didn't end up working in Cambridge really). Went to look at houses there yesterday and found a couple of potentials and we're going to try to claim one of them tomorrow morning.

I need to give a month's notice from a rent date for my current flat, which is at the beginning of the month, so if we get the Langley house sorted this week we should be able to move towards the end of the month.
