At least in your specific example of hormonal contraception, I would say it was very much about working with Nature. After all, all we do is introduce a little bit of the same hormone as the body makes during pregnancy, and then Nature takes over, to stop egg production, change the womb lining etc etc etc.

Do you have any examples of a time when you actually think we're working against Nature in an irratating way?

The obvious one is the shear amount of processed food we get through.

Although the quote came from a discussion about alternative ways to stop the spread of TB through cattle without resorting to a mass cull of badgers (not that the government will ever let a reasoned arguement stop them from performing another mass cull...)
