Thornton's have apparently stopped selling rum-and-raisin ice-cream to under 18s because it contains 0.7% alcohol.

As a man it's recommended that if I consume no more than 2-3 units of alcohol per day and no more than 21 units per week, I am not likely to suffer serious side-effects as a result.

I'd like to think that would mean I can safely consume upto 3-4 litres of ice-cream a day and upto 30 litres a week.

I'm not sure it works like that though...

Lets go crazy and as an experiment see if we can get wasted on it. I think we'll need (7(beers to get pissed)x5(times less potent than Stella))=35 pints of icecream. If the SHC of icecream is basically the same as water (and we can guess itmust be about the same) that means we need 4186x35x32=4,688,320J to raise the temperature of this icecream to body temperature. Do do this I propose we eat peanuts. Assuming total conversion of peanuts to icecream-heating-energy, this would be 4688320/8000=586.04grams of peanuts (aparently each peanut contains roughly 8000J of energy), or 5.86 kg or 586.04/0.025=23,441.6 bags of KP.

I love science.

So does this mean I can't give my three year old Fentiman's lemonade?

Oh well- all the more for me...
