Chip & Pin

Maybe it's just me, but since the introduction of chip & pin, I don't think I interact with shop assistants so much.

I suppose it must have been that with cash transactions or the old signatures, there was the whole thing of items being passed back and forwards between you. Now you just stick your card in the slot type in some numbers and nothing need change hands the whole time.

Is this just me or do other people find the same thing?

Bizarrely, I bought a ticket today from a kiosk which didn't accept cash, only cards; but didn't yet have a PIN machine!

Yeah, defintely true. The moment of bonding came when my long suffering debit card refused to work, and they had to type in the number, and we had a little chat about it. The chip & pin works first time and they just stand around bored..

I think that's true however I don't mind the lack of interaction, it tends to speed things up. Also as an ex-shop Manager who worked in retail before Chip & Pin came in, I can definitely say that not having to check a signature any more would have been one of the things that would have made my life and my staff's lives so much easier.

Chatty shop assistants will always find it easy to make conversation with customers, however the majority just want to get onto the next customer as soon as possible, especially at this time of year.
