Just got back from the committee band at C#.

Speaking to MJ before hand apparently the sound guy had a car accident on the way there. He's fine, but it just meant he didn't make it and didn't bring the piece of sound equipment he had with him, which meant the sound cut out on a couple of the dances.

Still fun though.

Got asked to dance by a complete stranger, which is always exciting as only happens rarely.

Met new molly, seems nice, if a bit quiet. Fun to dance with although she scarily doesn't appear to weigh anything. Spins went round really fast as a result though...

Another complete stranger said to me "you're the guy who does the mean baskets" in one of the dances. Am now wondering what a mean basket is. Perhaps it's one that steals all your eggs?

Did we go anywhere nice?

Keep meaning to go swimming. There's a pool down the road from me, but never seem to get round to going :-(

If all the girls leave the ground at once and get spun round... that can be a pretty mean basket!

I've been meaning to ask... why all the cabbages?

Yes, but then people have an annoying habbit of throwing their legs out when they leave the ground in a basket, slowing the whole thing down.

Baskets are so much better when everyone is leaning back into giving their full weight.

why all the cabbages?

why not?

Well why not indeed! I just wondered if there was some deep significance to the cabbages that had totally eluded me!

I have ceilidh withdrawal now - they seem to be a bit thin on the ground in these here parts...

Probably, but it's totally eluded me so far too...

I have ceilidh withdrawal now

That's a shame :-(

oh dear, not much hope for commuting then...

Would many people be interested if you set up a ceilidh series there?

Dunno, got to be worth a try - Any suggestions? I've not tried to set up anything like that. I know there wasn't much interest when we tried to set up a session in the local pub a year or so ago...

Don't really know as I've never set one up either. Might be worth asking advice on eceilidh (http://www.cix.co.uk/~net-services/ec/) and/or allceilidh (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/allceilidh/) as there are bound to be a few people on there who have done.

I suppose the thing to do is to start small (you probably don't want to risk too much in overheads), ie local band (possibly formed especially for this by local musicians) and caller and find a church/school hall or something to hold it in. Then advertise locally: local press, supermarkets, libraries, etc as well as making announcements on eceilidh (http://www.cix.co.uk/~net-services/ec/), allceilidh (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/allceilidh/), webfeet (http://www.webfeet.org/) and Folking (http://www.folking.com/events/suite/calendar/calendar.cgi?website=default&session=43a58bf3568c9406) (all good sources of free advertising).
