Oh look... Free Evening!

...or as free as an evening can be when the living room's stacked floor to ceiling with boxes and you need to get ready to go to Exeter tomorrow. However, as I've booked tomorrow off to get there it is now officially the weekend (yay!) of IVFDF (more yay!).

There's lots of things I've wanted to post on here lately, but haven't had time (and am fast forgetting the details about, so they may never appear), so have a small brain dump of what I've been doing the past couple of evenings, before I head off home.

Traces

On Tuesday evening, miriammoules, actionreplay, spiker_uk and I all went over to the Peacock Theatre to see Traces.

(miriammoules has already posted a review, but I've yet to read it - something else to catch up on)

For those that don't know about it, here's the theatre's blurb:

Combining awe-inspiring circus training with infectious urban energy, four men and one woman give dazzling, gravity defying displays of skill, balancing casually on each other's heads, or tumbling through hoops and leaping spectacularly up giant poles without using their hands.

But Traces is more than just a display of acrobatic brilliance, as snippets of the performers' real lives are revealed through film clips, narration and music. We are gradually drawn into their story, and by the final, dramatic climax of the show, the audience is on the edge of their seats, willing them to pull off the seemingly impossible.

Set to a fantastic soundtrack ranging from rock 'n'roll to blues to hip hop, this is a thrill-a-minute show that will leave you begging for more.

Given what I've now seen possible given professional acrobatics in dance, I'd love to see what a group like this would do with a rapper dance. There must be so much that could be done beyond the standard tumbles, etc.

I find myself wanting 5 acrobats and a set of swords to play with...

The Listening Post

Last night, I popped along to the Science Museum for their late night opening.

It's been a while since I last ventured around there and they changed quite a few of the exhibits since I last saw it.

I took advantage of the discounted rate to IMAX to see a film about Van Gogh. I've always been a bit dubious about paying extra for IMAX, given that my left eye is very dominant which can cause issues with some 3d effects, but there was definitely depth there, so I was impressed.

However, the main thing that impressed me all evening was the Listening Post. It's been there for a year now, but I wasn't aware of it until I stumbled across it last night.

It's apparently on display until February 2010, so there's a whole year to see it if you haven't already.

Must try to stop myself spending a whole year sitting in the science museum listening to the internet.
